Assistant Curator, Monument Lab
Program Coordinator for New Arts Justice at Rutgers University-Newark
“I learned the value of community, which is where I found my voice. The students and teachers who surrounded me are what made my classes, boarding experience, and extracurricular commitments memorable.” —Alliyah
During her time at 日博体育app, Alliyah helped create safe spaces such as Teach2Serve, Black Friday, Girl Forward, and Diversity Club where students could voice their opinions and enact change. “I learned the value of community, which is where I found my voice. The students and teachers who surrounded me are what made my classes, boarding experience, and extracurricular commitments memorable.” Helping to create those spaces was important to her because, “It's important to have space where you can come as you are to the table, speak vulnerably, challenge others, and still feel love and acceptance when you leave. I wouldn't be who I am today without the love, insight, and support I received from my 日博体育app family, and for that, I am truly grateful.”
Alliyah Allen graduated from Haverford College with a BA in Religion and Africana Studies in 2018. Currently, she is a Program Coordinator for New Arts Justice at Express Newark and an Assistant Curator of Monument Lab. Based in Newark, NJ, Alliyah co-founded LAND Collective, a visual art collective that supports local artists. She is also an artist and curator who focuses on the experiences, narratives, healing practices, and transformational image practices surrounding blackness, spirituality, and womanhood. Employing curation, photography, and writing as tools, Alliyah intends to use them as part of her mission to empower and give space to those who are unseen and unheard.
